Tush Cush Orthopedic Foam Cushion Review

Posted by Jay Suthers on Jul 7th, 2014

You may have been looking for reviews from customers who have purchased the Tush Cush Orthopedic Cushion. But many reviews have comments like, "It took too long to get here", "It arrived broken", "The actual color wasn't anything like the picture", or "Don't buy this, it's not worth the money" None of these reviews are useful. They say nothing about how the product worked for them or how the features of the product helped them or did not help them.

In this review, I will tell you as much useful information as I can about the Tush Cush Orthopedic Cushion based on questions I've received from customers over the years. Hopefully, this information will help you make an informed choice regarding the  Tush Cush (available at Amazon.com).

The The Tush Cush is an orthopedic cushion designed to provide comfort while sitting in a chair, in the car, or even on the floor. The customers I've worked with use the Tush Cush as a meditation tool. Not everyone can sit on the floor with their legs folded into a pretzel, back straight, and eyes comfortably closed. The Tush Cush is best used for sitting in a chair during meditation, but some people may find it is comfortable enough for floor sitting meditation.

As you can see from the image on the right, there are a few notable features about the Tush Cush. First, you will see that the cushion has a wedge shape. This built-in slope helps to raise and support the hips. This is very important as this posture ensures that the hips are rotated slightly forward. That rotation causes the lower back to curve in. The inward curve causes the entire spine to assume an "S" shape, which is the natural alignment of the spinal column. In this position, there is less strain on the back muscles to hold the body upright. The spinal column naturally supports the upper body in the "S" shape.

The second feature you will notice is the the back of the cushion has an open area. This opening ensures that the cushion is not in contact with the coccyx or tailbone. Even if you do not have any sensitivity or injury to the coccyx, keeping pressure off this sensitive area will be very helpful toward maintaining comfort when sitting for long periods of time.

The third feature, which is not so important, is the little strap accross the open area. This simply serves as a carry handle. It makes it easier to transport the Tush Cus to the office, your car, in the home, and at your Church or Meditation Center. The fact that it weighs less than a pound is also helpful.

Along the low edge or front of the Tush Cush you will find a zipper that runs the length of the front of the cushion. This zipper allows you to remove the covering so that it can be cleaned. It is recommended that you use mild detergent, cold water, and line drying to ensure the cover doesn't shrink.

The inner pad is an open-cell foam wedge. It keeps its shape well and is firm enough to maintain support. It will not completely flatten out when sat upon. Yet, it is soft enough to be comfortable for long periods of sitting.

I hope this review has been helpful. As far as customer reviews regarding broken items, long shipping times, and other issues unrelated to the performance of the product, it is always best to contact the people who sent you the cushion and give them the opportunity to correct the problem. Things can always go wrong and it is really important that we be compassionate and patient with people. Let them fix the problem first so you can write a review that will be truly valuable to others.
