The Power of Putzing
Have you ever found yourself floating around your house, really doing nothing but kind of doing something? If you've ever found yourself aimlessly rearranging the spice rack, refolding the t-shirts in your dresser drawer or moving nick-knacks from one space to another, you have putzed. There is a certain therapeutic aspect to these seemingly meaningless and mundane actions. Most of us spend the majority of our lives immersed in actions that have a beginning and an end. Whether our time is spent at work or at home, most of our actions are goal oriented. Whereas with putzing there is no purpose, set goal or finish line. The Power of Putzing comes from our innate need to nest and become more a part of our environment.
Often putzing can be like a moving meditation, which is when our bodies are moving, but our minds don't need to be totally engaged in the activity at hand.
We've all heard how beneficial it is to meditate, however, for those of you who find it difficult to sit still and meditate, a moving meditation can offer similar benefits. Walking, running and swimming are all examples of a moving meditation. So don't feel like you're wasting your time when you find yourself putzing. Instead realize how relaxed you feel during and after. Embrace this mindless activity and know that you've experienced The Power of Putzing.
