Meditation Timer Review

The Meditation Timer is an electronic timer typically with three characteristics. The first characteristic is that meditation timers are generally easy to use. They do not require any complicated programming, an "App" doesn't need to be purchased and downloaded, and setting the meditation timer should be as easy as setting a Kitchen Timer. Meditation timers should not require you to have a degree in programming or to own an expensive iPhone, iPad, iPod or Android device.

The second characteristic is that meditation timers are completely silent when running and generally produce a gentle sound to signal the end of the countdown. The pyramid-shaped timer (pictured) produces a soft gonging sound to signal the end of the countdown. It is completely silent during the countdown - there is no ticking sound as one would hear with a wind-up kitchen timer.

The third characteristic is that the meditation timer should be pleasing to look at in one's personal meditation space. There is something sacred about this space and we typically want to minimize the amount of "stuff" in the meditation area - especially high-tech gadgetry such as cell phones, computers, iPads, tablets, and so on. Since most of these devices connect to the outside world via WiFi connection, it just doesn't feel right to have these devices sitting next to us transmitting their radio signals and bombarding us with electrons during meditation. None of our electronic timers have WiFi or other transmitting devices in them. They are low-voltage, low-power timers with simple electronics. They emit nothing other than sound at the end of your session.

The pyramid-shaped timer in the image above is very pleasing to look at. The top is made of natural wood and uses a non-toxic, water-based finish with no detectable odor. The pyramid shape is to the exact proportions of the Kheops pyramid of Ghiza. It adds positive energy to the room. The base is made of plastic, but it is not made in China. Every part of this timer is made in France. It runs on four, common AA batteries and the easy-to-use controls are on the base of the timer. The pyramid shape is undisturbed by the controls.
